Have you heard of our Mushroom Library? A Blackwater Tale

The Mushroom Library

Most places that house books are in a war with the damp. Here in the dark we mist the leather. Mushrooms and lichen sprout over the bindings and peek under pages.

It is what happens to the tomes that have gone to a disrepair.

I sit here on days when the world is too loud. I can hear the fungi whisper of the secret written in the pages. I find humor in the misunderstandings as a mushroom cannot comprehend most of what it reads and as the passages makes the rounds it becomes a game of telephone until Socrates is credited with saying something to the effect of “ A man in possession of a great fortune must be in want of a wife.” This in particular lead to a weeks long discussion between the button caps and the chicken of the woods what an Ancient Greek philosopher must have meant. I haven’t the heart to ever correct them. They often stumble on a rather brilliant reinterpretation.

Besides what would a librarian be able to teach a mushroom?
